CALL FOR ENTRIES

The 5th Voladero 2004 International Film and Video Festival is calling upon international film and video makers to submit their short films and videos under 30 minutes in length to participate in the initial selection for the festival. The films must have been completed after January 1st, 2003. The selection will be shown on August 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29, 2004 at the Nuevo LeÛn Cinematheque and there will be an awards ceremony after the last screening on August 29.

Awards will be given to first and second place winners in two categories: Fiction Narrative, and Documentary. There will be two mentions given to best animation and best mexican film or video. There will also be an audience award, which will be given to one film selected by festival attendees. Winners will receive a certificate as well as any prizes that sponsors provide. The jury might find certain categories deserted and its decisions are unappealable.

A committee of specialists will make the initial selection,which will be screened during the festival. From the films selected, the jury will choose the works they find most deserving of each award, the jury's decision will be made known at the awards ceremony after the last screening.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: Films must be delivered at the festival office by MAY 15 2004. Entries received after that date will not be considered. We will acknowledge receipt of your entry ONLY BY E-MAIL, we cannot confirm receipt by any other means.

PLEASE SEND THE FOLLOWING WITH YOUR APPLICATION:

1- One VHS or DVD NTSC copy of the film. It must be clearly labeled with the title of the film in its original language, the film's title in Spanish or English, length in minutes, original format and the name, phone number and e-mail of the director.

2- Completed and signed entry form. Please fill it on line and then PRINT IT. The Application form can be found here.

3- FIVE production stills.

4- Director's filmography and biographical information.

5- THERE WILL NOT BE AN ENTRY FEE.

NOTES (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):

Materials sent in for application WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

Participants may send in as many films as they like, but each must be registered individually and be accompanied by all application materials.

International packages must be labeled "NO COMMERCIAL VALUE / SIN VALOR COMERCIAL" and its declared value must be the minimal allowed (usually $5.00 U.S. dollars). Any material that requires the payment of import taxes will not be received.

We advise against using traditional mail since packages can easily get lost or arrive late. All packages sent by traditional mail MUST BE IN THE FESTIVAL OFFICE by APRIL 30.

Please do not send videotapes in fiber filled envelopes, as it can easily damage cassettes and VCRs. Please use bubblepack instead.

If a film is selected the filmmaker must provide a good quality copy of the film in its original format: 35mm or 16mm with standard sound or VIDEO (DV-CAM or Mini DV). Films that are in languages other than English or Spanish must be subtitled. * Filmmakers will be notified by the festival if their films have been selected and the official selection will be published on our web page on June 04, 2004.

By applying, entrants agree to these guidelines.

The jury's decision is unappealable. Any unforeseen situations will be resolved by the organizing committee.

Films produced by members of the Voladero Film Workshop are not eligible for participation.
